The Power of a Positive Attitude and the Birth of Super Mario

Here's my notes from today's episode!

BE POSITIVE

Having a positive attitude is the best way to get ahead in life.

It’s what put a man on the moon. Everyone thought that was impossible. The positive attitude came first. A powerful dream coupled with a positive attitude can move mountains.

“The greatest discovery of my generation is that people can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.” -William James

Let’s be honest. Life isn’t really fair. We’ve all got challenges we have to work through.

“Things turn out the best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” -John Wooden

The problems are there whether we like it or not, so we may as well do our best to look on the bright side.

Seven signs of a great attitude

1. Believe in yo’ self

“Many people succeed when others do not believe in them. But rarely does a person succeed when he does not believe in himself.

2. Willingness to see the best in others.

Put a 10 over their heads!

3. Ability to see opportunity everywhere

Opportunity isn’t based solely on luck or position, they exist where you find them. But you have to be willing to look where you are, not in ahead in the future or behind in the past.

4. Focus on solutions

Just about anybody can see problems! “Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done.

5. Desire to give

This one seems paradoxical. You’re losing something, right? It’s weird, but it works. You only have to try it to find out for yourself. You don’t have to give up all your money or rescue baby whales in the rain forest. Just try little acts of kindness where you can.

6. Persistance

One of my favorite words. If you’ve hit on your dream, you have to keep at it no matter what. A positive attitude makes it easier. You can believe all your hard work is actually going somewhere.

7. Take some responsibility

For yourself, and the people around you. It doesn’t even have to be your fault. Carry someone else’s burdens once in a while too. This can be part of giving.

How to change?

If you want to change attitudes, start with a change in behavior. In other words, begin to act the part as well as you can, of the person you most want to become. Gradually, the old, fearful person will fall away.

Henry Ford said, whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.

March 10 is Mario Day

Not an actual Mario anniversary. People started celebrating because some calendars will read MAR 10 on that day, which looks like MARIO.

If you can believe it, Mario has now been around for almost 40 years.

Mario got his start in the arcades. Around 1980 Nintendo had seen a major failure in their first arcade game, Radar Scope. They decided to turn their failure into a new game and asked a young Shigeru Miyamoto to design a game to replace it using the same components.

The result was a huge success. Over 528 million games in the series have been sold across various Nintendo platforms, and Mario has become a household name.

The Mario name came from Nintendo of America’s landlord at the time.
