Episode 44 - Madrina's Iced Coffee and Escargo Day

Les Brown said “Don’t underestimate yourself, you are capable of more than you can ever imagine.”

Joan of Arc

Peasant girl who lead France to victory as a teenager.

At the age of 13, Joan of Arc began to hear voices telling her to lead France to victory against the English and see the crown Prince, Charles, crowned king. Somehow Joan convinced him to allow her to lead his army. She won the battle, but was later captured by English sympathizers, who tried her for witchcraft and burnt her at the stake when she was just 19.

Despite her tragic end, there’s no denying Joan of Arc changed the course of history by boldly seizing her destiny. Now, if a teenage peasant girl can lead an army to victory, what can you do?

3 Steps to help you not underestimate yourself

1. Avoid negative self-talk

It’s easy to allow negative thoughts into our mind or thoughts that are not true. Thoughts of “there’s no way that I’m going to get this project done in time” or “I’m not smart enough to do well on this test”. There are many many negative thoughts that pop into our head during the day and it takes determination to stop those thoughts in their tracks and rework them into a positive. I find that I have to have an internal conversation with myself, analyze what is going on and reframe the thought into a positive. “I may not get every answer on this test right but I’m going to do my best and hope for a passing grade” while this is not an ideal situation got is still turning a negative into a positive and who knows, you may actually ace the test!

2. Write out a list of your positive traits.

You can even ask friends and family contribute. Again, this is going to take some reflection and analyzing on your part. Not everyone is the same nor should they be the same. Be yourself and let you your true self shine through.

3. Stop unhelpful criticism and insults

This goes along with number one but stop the self criticism or the insults that you reprimand yourself for. Try laughing it off. This is one of my favorite things to do. I probably look like a weirdo but who cares. If I mess up or catch myself

Reprimanding myself for something I should have done differently I laugh it off. There’s nothing that can be done about it now. No going back in time to fix the mistake. Just moving forward and accepting the mistake. So why not laugh it off? It’ll help you feel better.

Endeavor Shuttle

Anniversary of the Endeavour’s first launch and its final mission.

Longest spacewalk in history, almost 9 hours. Held by James Voss and Susan Helms. 9 hours may not sound like long but that is a crazy amount of time to spend in a spacesuit. You can’t go to the bathroom in space, and you can’t eat. Astronauts have to wear diapers. The fortitude needs to see their mission through had to be incredible.

Don’t underestimate yourself. You’re capable of more than you know, and you can accomplish amazing things if you set your mind to it.

The 24th is also Escargo Day, so grab a snail and chow down.
