Episode 15 -Black Tea Coffee

Episode 15- Yuanyang (Coffee and Black Tea)

This episode was the first we recorded from separate states. For some reason the audio came out badly- You can't hear me at all! We think we can fix it, but in the meantime, here's a rough transcript.

It has everything, unfortunately, but the actual tasting. I recall this one was kind of just "OK" not bad not great. Pretty much how you would expect a blend of black tea, coffee, and milk to taste. Didn't hate it but it's not one I'll ever revisit.

Feel free to try it yourself though and let us know what you think. The super precise and specific recipe I used was:

Recipe
  • 1/2 Cup of Coffee
  • 1/2 Cup of Black Tea
  • A pinch of sugar
  • Two Tablespoons (ish) of Milk

In today's trivia we learn about the origins of the coffee break itself.

Chad: We are trying Yuanyang today a black tea coffee combo, Hong Kongers live fast paced lives and enjoy the extra energy that the tea and coffee combo provide. The recipe calls for 3 parts black strong coffee to 7 parts strong black tea.

Leuke: This drink is named after mallard ducks. The male and female look very different, and the Yuenyeung is the joining of two different drinks.

[Trivia]

Leuke: Supposedly the coffee break originated in Stoughton Wisconsin when a Mr. Osmund Gunderson attempted to hire the wives of Norweigan immigrants to help him sort tobacco. They agreed, as long as they could short breaks in the morning and afternoon to tend to chores at home. This gave them the opportunity to a have a little coffee, which like any good wife they kept a pot of hot on the stove, and thus the coffee break was born. There is a festival in Stoughton every year called the Coffee Break festival. Road trip!
